Lauro fleet sails to the future with DeepSpeed electric jet!
Lauro shipping company, founded by Commander Agostino Lauro, decided to commission SEALENCE the electric retrofitting study of its vessels.
The first installation of Deepspeed electric jets will be done on a boat
used for tourist excursions through the Gulf of Naples and islands in the area.
The ship is 24 meters long, a capacity of 160 passengers and belongs to the shipping company Captain Morgan based in Ischia.
The goal of the refitting is to have a boat capable of approx. 6 hours full electric navigation at a cruising speed of 18 knots, with a 9 months per year continuous operativity.
Propulsion will be the “Deepspeed 840 Hybrid” powertrain that includes the installation of 2 electric jet Deepspeed 420, originally designed for 50 knots speeds and which are currently being optimized by SEALENCE engineers to efficient navigation at low speed.
Ischia, together with Procida, “Italian Capital of Culture 2022”, will be where the testing activities are going to be performed. These test activities are expected to start in 2022 and the vessel is expected to entre full passengers service in 2023.
