Yanmar Saildrive SD15
Yanmar has responded to significant demand from the world’s leading boat builders with the saildrive SD15 “solution” for larger sailboats with engines from 80 HP to 150 HP.
By allowing monohull and multihull boats from 50 to 65 feet to access the installation and user benefits traditionally associated with saildrive transmissions, for the first time, the new SD15 has already been successfully installed on a Sunreef 50 ‘after a few extensive technical tests on a Kufner 54.
The SD15 saildrive, manufactured by ZF, can be coupled to the YANMAR 4JH80, 4JH110 and 4LV150 common rail engines, offering a new option to a wide range of sailboats and catamarans that use higher power engines and that previously depended on the lines conventional transmission.
Compact, easy and safe to install without the need for specific alignments, the SD15 simplifies the production process and reduces costs for OEMs while allowing for greater design flexibility.
The boat owner will experience low onboard vibration and noise, low drag, higher propulsion efficiency and fuel consumption, and excellent hydrodynamic efficiency, increasing comfort on board when steering by power. Featuring a lightweight aluminum casing treated to maximize corrosion resistance, the SD15 saildrive is durable and reliable to ensure longer service intervals.
Additional features of the saildrive include hydraulically actuated multi-disc clutches for smooth shifting performance and an integrated output shaft brake. The SD15 is paired with a Flexofold folding propeller, well known for its excellent hydrodynamics when lowered.
For smaller sailboats, the SD60 saildrive is currently available, with mechanical clutch, custom designed to match the 3JH40, 4JH45, 4JH57 and 4JH80 engines. The SD15, in combination with the 4JH80 and 4JH110, will be available in the market from the first or second quarter of 2021 with the introduction of the pre-programmed 4LV150 option.
