Villalia Open de España in J70

NOTICIA , skippered by José María ‘Pichu’ Torcida, has been proclaimed the brilliant winner of the Villalia Open de España in J70 that has been held from Friday to Sunday in the waters of Vigo, included in the extensive program of Abanca Week regattas.

The RCM Santander boat has not given a choice after placing leader from the first day and increasing its advantage during the three days of competition, where nine races were completed. The shipowner Luis Martín Cabiedes’ team has had a truly luxurious crew in addition to Torcida and Martín Cabiedes, Rayco Tabares, Fran Palacio and Pablo Santurde have sailed.

If the NOTICIA gave practically seen to sentence the title on Saturday, on Sunday he did not want to be less and in the only two tests he scored two seconds, in the first only surpassed by Mercedes-Benz Sailing Team of Luis Martínez Doreste and in the second by Eurofrist-Aviko by Alfredo González.

After the penultimate round, and with the NOTICIA already virtual champion, the classification was tightened and the Mercedes-Benz Sailing Team, which started on the last sixth day, was placed just two points from the podium, with which in the last test it had the assault in his hand, but he finished sixth, which allowed him to climb a place in the general classification to finish finishing the Villalia Open of Spain in fifth position.

Finally, Luis Albert’s Patakín and Eurofrist-Aviko accompanied Noticia on the podium. Fourth place was for Luis Bugallo’s MarNatura 1 and fifth for Mercedes-Benz Sailing Team (RCN Barcelona / RCN Arrecife / RCN Gran Canaria) and that for the occasion had Luis Martínez Doreste, Ricardo Terrades, Germán in its crew. Panei and Manuel Carrión.

Ricardo Terrades, Project Manager of the Mercedes-Benz Sailing Team, made a final assessment of the Villalia Open de España in J70: “It was a very tough competition, due to the level of the fleet with great sailors worldwide, and also due to the weather conditions with strong winds on the first day and on this last day in which in the last test it was marked by a heavy rainstorm shower that barely could see anything ”. Terrades added that “we are happy with the final day where we have fought to be on the podium until the last test.”

In the awards ceremony, the winner, in addition to the trophy, took a stay to choose between Lanzarote and the Island of La Toja, provided by the sponsor of the Villalia Luxury Villas event, and both the first 3 classifieds, as well as the winners of the Corinthian categories (amateur) and Juvenil, received floating glasses courtesy of the new Spanish brand Kahaway.

The next J70 circuit to be launched will be the one organized by RCN Barcelona with the start of the Barcelona Winter Series 2020-2021 from October 23 to 25, already in the Barcelona Winter Series.
