Baiona this Sunday put the end to one of the most anticipated appointments of the cruise season in Galicia. The Prince of Asturias Trophy closed its thirty-sixth edition this Sunday in the Rías Baixas, and it did so successfully after three intense days in which the wind did not make it easy for both the committee and the participating fleet. With the latest financed tests, Solventis, Aceites Abril, Maracaná I, Bosch Service Solutions, Marcolfo, Salseiro, Etnia Barcelona and Erizana are the brand-new winners of the event organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar with the sponsorship of ABANCA.
In the April ORC 1 Oils category, the fleet played two rounds this Sunday in which the Solventis of Malalo Bermúdez de Castro (MRCYB) gave its rivals no choice when it won the two partial victories of the day. With these results, the Bermúdez team wins its fourth Prince of Asturias in one of the most competitive classes this year. In second position was Xekmatt by José Carlos Prista (AN Lisboa) and in third position was Magical by Julio Rodríguez (RCN Vigo).
Two more tests were also added for the Nacexa ORC 2 class. With three victories in the four rounds completed during the weekend, Aceites Abril de Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, became the winner of the Baionesa is ahead of Yess Racing de Rui Ramada (MRCYB), who attacked the second position of the podium on the final day, and Marías de Manel María Cunha (MRCYB), who finished third. The Red Devil team also won the ABANCA Special Award to the overall winner of the ORC 1-2-3-4, which was the icing on the cake to a brilliant season for the Pérez Canal brothers after having also won in the Conde de Gondomar Trophy and the Rías Baixas Regatta.

In the Volvo Autesa ORC 3 class, Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions (CM Canido) made full of victories and won the Prince of Asturias, accumulating a total of three titles (2018, 2019 and 2021). It was followed on the podium by Fran Edreira’s Urbapaz (CM La Penela) and the third box was occupied by Carlos Sampedro’s Eleko-Mambo (CM La Penela).
In the Martin Miller ORC 4 category, the Maracaná I of Luis Suárez (Marítimo de Panxón) sentenced the queen of Monte Real, taking the final victory. In second and third place were Orión by Javier Pérez (MRCYB) and Sadamar Alma do Mar by Nito Enríquez (CM La Penela).
In Gadis ORC 5, the third and last day was difficult. With a coastal route that had to be shortened by the fall of the wind, only Antonio Gómez’s Marcolfo (RCN Vigo) managed to complete the test within the time limit, and for the first time he was proclaimed winner of the Prince of Asturias in his category . Behind, second place was finally taken by Chispa Nejra by José Rey (CN Beluso) and third was by Cinco Islas Albariño by Iñaki Carbajo, also representing the Beluso Nautical Club.
On the coast where the SH Robotics ORC Open was held, only the Salseiro crossed the finish line on time. The Real Club Náutico de A Coruña team led by Manuel Blanco was proclaimed the winner ahead of Nahela by Víctor Manuel Álvarez (CN Alagua) and Villano by Luis Bodelón (RCN Coruña), second and third respectively.
At the Solventis J80 race course, after several hours of waiting and an unsuccessful first attempt, the race committee was able to complete a single test this Sunday in which Etnia Barcelona from Peru Múgica was the winner. With this result, the representative team of the Real Club Marítimo de Santader achieved a tie in the leadership with the Okofen of Javier de la Gándara (MRCYB) that was resolved in favor of the Santanderians, as they were the winners of the last test. Okofen came second and third place went to La Galera by Miguel Fernández Vasco (RCN Coruña).
For the six crews of the Gestilar Ladies Cup the wind did not enter on time and the general classification became final with the results of Saturday. El Erizana de Sara Carmo (Marina Burriananova – Som Vela) was proclaimed winner of a category that this year celebrates its silver anniversary within the Prince of Asturias Trophy. The second place was taken by the Serralleiras skippered by Eva González (RCM Santander) and third were the sailors of the Tutatis with Helena Alegre (RCN Palma) at the helm.
The awards ceremony was in charge of putting the finishing touch to this exciting edition. In addition to awarding the winners of each category, the prizes of the President of the Xunta Trophy were also awarded to the best boats in the Intenta Elena Regatta of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, the Mar de Finisterre Regatta of the Real Club Náutico de Portosín and the Prince of Asturias from Baiona. In the ORC 0-1 class the award went to Mirfak of Diego López (CNR Ferrol), in ORC 2-3 the winner was Urbapaz of Diego López (CM La Penela), and the victory of J80 was taken by Impression 3D Atlántico by Guillermo Blanco (RCN A Coruña)
