SANTIAGO LANGE AT THE VIRTUAL VALENCIA BOAT SHOW

In addition to being a platform for the sale and purchase of boats, motors, accessories and nautical services, Virtual Valencia Boat Show has become the digital meeting point for lovers of the sea and nautical.

This Friday he had two guests, the duo Santiago Lange and Cecilia Carranza, a gold medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, who commented on their work routines, their feelings after the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games, and their preparation to sail in the new Nacra17 modality with foils.

“I think it is brave to do a virtual boat show. It is very good to try to get out of what we have experienced in some way. I hope it will be a success,” reflected Santiago Lange as soon as he started his presentation.

“For me what we do is a choice, and what I like the most is thinking about how to go faster,” says Lange, who at 54 years old and after overcoming cancer, managed to win the Olympic gold with Cecilia Carranza in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“The Nacra is the most demanding boat in which I have sailed in my sporting career, especially in this stage with foils”, has assured the Olympian, who has pointed out that, although he considers that his team is not the best in the fleet, you can be a champion “sailing smartly”.

The Argentine couple work hard to master a boat “much more challenging than the previous one” since in this new modality, the Nacra17 Olympic boat has a different centerboard and foils that allow it to rise above the water and navigate at high speeds.

“We are not particularly good with specific conditions, but we are relatively competitive in all conditions,” said the boss, who has assured that “we are better in working capacity.”

The candle must seek volume
Santiago Lange has also analyzed the different Olympic classes and has not hesitated to point out that sailing must seek categories with many participants. “I think that the Olympic world has to have something accessible and cheap for any country and any sailor. We need a voluminous category like Laser, Windsurf or Kite.”
