“Florida” the ecological Superyacht of 160 meters
THE SUPERYACHT FLORIDA IS A MODERN AND ELEGANT DESIGN PROJECT THAT SAILS WITH THE FORCE OF THE WIND, THE SUN … AND HYDROGEN.
THE SAILS THAT POWER THE SUPERYACHT OF THE FUTURE, EVEN WITHOUT WIND
Green navigation will encompass the entire nautical industry, with electric or hydrogen boat projects.
One of the most recent proposals is from Kurt Strad, a Norwegian designer who is committed to a concept of an ecological sailing superyacht of 160 meters in length, capable of sailing the seas even without wind.
The main innovation of the ‘Florida’ is in the sails.
The sails of this boat are three wings-masts 80 meters high and made of carbon fiber. The poles are telescopic, made up of longitudinally successive pieces that can be collected using an electrohydraulic system, and the wing sails are covered by state-of-the-art flexible solar panels.
In case of no wind, this superyacht can activate the “solar sailing” mode. The control system will automatically adjust the sails to an optimal angle against the sun’s rays.
When there is wind, the yacht is propelled by the sails at the same time that the sails produce electrical energy through the solar panels.
To always keep the solar panels clean and guarantee their effectiveness, the masts have a built-in washing system that cleans the sails every time they are folded.
The solar sails can be hoisted even in port, since the wing-masts rotate automatically if the wind picks up, generating energy that powers the batteries and that can also be used for the production of hydrogen.
Hydrogenerators have been installed in the living work of the yacht that will produce electrical energy while sailing.
All the electrical energy produced is stored in 5 megawatt batteries and can be used to create hydrogen on board the yacht.
In the absence of wind or sun, the superyacht can continue to perform on hydrogen fuel cells.
The Florida is a 160-meter superyacht with space for a large pool, cinema room, spa, gym and garage for supercars.
It requires 40 crew members who take care of the ship, and serve the 24 guests accommodated in 12 suites.
The decoration completes the ecological circle of the yacht, since the carpentry work is done with recycled woods, vegan leather and the outdoor furniture is made with recycled plastics.
