A third of the 270 beached whales in Australia have died, only 25 were saved.

270 pilot whales were found stranded off the coast of Australia on Monday, and at least a third of them have died. It is feared that many more will do so in the next few hours.

The delicate salvage operation that will probably take days.

The appearance of beached whales in the area is common, but it had been more than ten years since so many appeared together at the same time. It is unknown what brought the whales to shore
