FPT Industrial expands its range of compatible marine engines

With the international digital event “Marine Virtual Experience”, FPT Industrial presented the expansion of its offer of marine engines for commercial applications, specifically developed to meet the needs of the largest number of end customers.

The focus was the introduction of the new C90 170 Stage V engine dedicated to heavy missions and with optimized fuel injection mapping, which avoids the need to use a urea-based aftertreatment system. The other highlight of the global launch event was the presentation of the keel cooling system, a particularly effective solution for cooling engines operating in sandy, muddy and shallow waters, because it avoids the risk of blocking filters and damaging fuel pumps. sea water intake used for cooling.

With the incorporation of the latest C90 170 Stage V engine, FPT Industrial further expands its global offering for the nautical sector, which includes 8 models with power from 85 hp to 1000 hp, continuing the path of the complete renewal of its range of marine engines , started from 2020. This type of engine has been specifically designed for heavier commercial missions and offers 170 hp at 2000 rpm and 1105 Nm of torque at 1000 rpm. Its applications include the transport of passengers, cargo ships or floating platforms, tugboats, trawlers and dredgers, operating mainly in rivers, lakes, as well as in urban canals and protected areas throughout Europe.

To meet the stringent requirements of the Stage V regulations, FPT Industrial has followed a different path. Rather than relying on a urea-based aftertreatment system, the brand has chosen to focus on optimizing engine mapping. The result is a 30% reduction in HC, NOx and PM emissions compared to the previous version and, in addition, a significant reduction in the total cost of ownership (TCO). The overall high level of sustainability of the new engine is also confirmed by the adoption of a specific oil retention system that prevents the combustion of the valve lubricating oil, with a substantial reduction in fumes. The C90 170 Stage V engine is approved by major international regulatory bodies and expands the FPT Industrial Stage V engine family.

The N40 170 Stage V engine represented the first step in the expansion of FPT Industrial’s marine range. In its standard configuration it is designed to deliver up to 250 hp at 2,800 rpm for European pleasure boats and in this specific configuration it meets the most stringent emission standards such as Inland Waterway Vessels (IWV) Stage V.

The brand’s N67 450 N engine is designed for light commercial and recreational applications in the North American and European markets. It offers 450 hp at 3000 rpm and 1305 Nm of torque at 1800 rpm. The N67 450 N engine is compliant with EPA and IMO emission regulations and has an improved cooling system and improved injection mode at low temperatures. An evolution of FPT Industrial‘s NEF marine engine family, this model offers considerable versatility, meeting power needs a wide and growing range of vessels, including the popular category of cruisers and yachts up to 12 meters, small ferries, security forces boats, search and rescue boats and light fishing boats. With the same technological innovations, this model was also launched on the European market as the N67 170, with 170 hp at 2300 rpm and IWV Stage V compatible.

The second big news presented during FPT Industrial’s “Virtual Marine Experience” was the introduction of the keel cooling system adopted in the N40 250 E, N67 450 N and N67 570 EVO engines. Through a complete rethinking of the engine design, this specific cooling system demonstrates the brand’s attention to the needs of customers operating in shallow or turbid waters, who want to avoid ongoing problems related to water cooling circuits.

Thanks to its position along the keel or incorporated in the hull itself, therefore in constant contact with the water, the system can effectively transfer heat between the coolant and the water, without the need to circulate salt water in the engine . Key benefits include protecting the engine from seawater corrosion, eliminating the risk of continuous seawater filter clogging, and frequent impeller damage. Transportable tugs, vessels and commercial fishing vessels operating in murky waters, inland waterways and ports will benefit greatly from this system, which can be used not only for displacement hulls but also for boats high-performance fisheries.

The event also represented an opportunity for FPT Industrial to show the Cursor X marine concept video. This is another important element to strengthen the focus of the
company in alternative propulsion.

“’Doing something for tomorrow starting today’ is the spirit that has always guided our brand,” says Fabio Rigon, Vice President of FPT Industrial Europe. “That is why we continue to expand our product portfolio by introducing new sustainable marine engines, along with specific technologies, such as the keel cooling system, designed to meet the needs of those operating in particular and difficult conditions. This is what we mean when we say that we like to be the best in serving our customers ”.

“At FPT one of our most important mottos is:« You speak, we listen to you », because we want to be close to our clients, offering them the best possible solution for their business. In addition, we leverage a Customer Centricity strategy by offering services aimed at making our customers happy and comfortable working with us, ”adds Guglielmo Tummarello, Director of the Industrial Marine Segment at FPT. “FPT Industrial’s marine products, including the latest, are designed and developed to offer the perfect combination of performance, efficiency and reliability.”

“We offer customers solutions tailored to their needs,” says Braden Cammauf, director of FPT Industrial Brand Nafta. “With the keel cooling system we are prepared to support those who work in sandy, muddy or shallow waters with the most up-to-date and competitive services.”
