1967 Amphicar 770 goes up for auction

Crossing land and water, a 1967 amphibian model 770 amphicar goes up for auction

The 1967 Model 770 amphicar showcases its ability to traverse water and land.

The amphibious vehicle had originally been developed by West German designer Hans Trippel in 1959 and reached the shores of the United States in 1961.

The four-seater convertible’s engine powers the rear wheels on land and two propellers on the water.

On land, the car has a four-speed manual transmission and reverse, while on water it is capable of driving both forward and reverse. the front wheels steer the car and act as rudders underwater. meanwhile, the exhaust exits through the rear panel of the body above the waterline, and the rear bumper guards prevent the twin propellers from running aground.

The Model 770 amphicar is currently up for auction and is in iowa.

The car’s body is finished in yellow and shows coast guard registration numbers painted along the fenders, and is defined by the fins on the top of the rear fender. meanwhile, the updated interior includes freshly upholstered vinyl bench seats and a two-spoke steering wheel in front of a 90 mph speedometer.

The seller notes that while he is underwater, the door seals the leaks, requiring the use of a bilge pump.

The reconditioned 1967 Model 770 amphicar is listed and is currently on sale at $ 10,250 USD.
