Vento Project a 100-meter eco-friendly megasailer

The “Vento” Project is the concept of a new 100-meter eco-friendly megasailer from Nuvolari Lenard

The NL 285 “Vento” project, presented by Nuvolari Lenard at the Venice Boat Show, is a manifesto for environmental protection and a call to designers and owners to develop truly eco-friendly large yachts.

A 100-meter sailing superyacht must be respectful of the environment and have the least possible impact on the ecosystem.

This can be achieved by combining knowledge, technologies and materials.

Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard, who are convinced of this, care about protecting the environment and have promoted responsible yacht design.

Vento” will not be just another “sail-assisted megayacht”, but an authentic and elegant 100 meter sailboat that will use the wind as its natural propelling force.

According to Nuvolari Lenard, the sporty and muscular design of the “Vento” has a powerful and aggressive profile that confirms its unique character.

The yacht is designed to be as efficient as possible: the reverse bow, in addition to giving the yacht a strong personality, allows the length of the waterline to be extended to the maximum, increasing stability and performance when sailing. The result, a helmet with less resistance and with lower power requirements for a certain speed, with enormous benefits when using sails or the engine.

The sloped stern also plays a role, because with its small bulk it will have less impact on overall displacement, which is crucial for an efficient and sustainable hull.

The “Vento” will be constructed of aluminum with advanced composite superstructures and masts. A long, lightweight hull will have less residual resistance and will form smaller waves.

For the sails scheme Nuvolari Lenard turned to Omer Wing-Sail. The result is a unique Wing Sail that offers significantly higher efficiency than traditional rigs.

Such a sail requires less sail area for the same performance, by reducing the amount of sail, there will be less heeling force and therefore less keel weight will be required to straighten the boat. is the end goal. The retractable keel will allow going from a draft of 5.5 m to 9 m. The carbon masts will measure 64 m and support a total sail area of 2,100 square meters.

Like any Nuvolari Lenard project, “Vento” encloses, within sporty and powerful lines, spacious and very well distributed interiors, thanks to a careful study of volumes and flows. The concept includes six double cabins: four VIP, one super VIP and the large master suite in front of the main deck, with a private terrace. The outdoor spaces are huge and varied too, including of course fly bridge, spa, beach club and all the other extras you would expect to find on a megayacht of this size.

In engine propulsion, Nuvolari Lenard will equip “Vento” with a hybrid diesel / electric system with variable speed generators and variable pitch propellers, to achieve maximum efficiency and minimum specific consumption.
