The iconic Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC) clubhouse in Nuevo Nayarit has been turned over to the State of Nayarit, as part of the state’s program to recover disputed properties. The state declined to extend the lease on the existing property to the club.
The property that VYC was leasing from Paradise Village Group includes a clubhouse, patio area, kitchen, bar, downstairs showers, Jacuzzi and pool. The lot also includes a boat ramp and parking lot. All will be taken over by the State of Nayarit. Vallarta Yacht Club will move into temporary accommodation until new permanent facilities can be identified.
This location has been the home of Vallarta Yacht Club for the past 21 years, and is recognized worldwide through events like the 2007 J24 World Championships, the 2011 Pan American Games, the 2016 and 2022 Laser World Championships, four Optimist North American Championships, as well as many others.
VYC’s Junior Sailing School will not be affected, and upcoming events like the Great Chili Cook-Off / Taste of Nuevo Vallarta (charity event), Regata de la Revolución, Vallarta Cup, the 31st Annual Banderas Bay Regatta, and the 18th Annual WesMex International Small Boat Regatta will also continue as planned. The J70 North American Championships, to be held in Banderas Bay for the first time in April-May 2024, will not be affected.
Regardless of location, the all-volunteer membership of Vallarta Yacht Club remains dedicated to continuing our mission of supporting Banderas Bay aquatic activities, bringing world-class sailing competitions to Mexico, and supporting the community through youth sailing programs and other events that benefit the Banderas Bay community.
