Transformation of the AMEL Yard Production Site

Since 1968, AMEL have been designing and producing their yachts on their only production site, located in Périgny near La Rochelle.

On July 10th, major renovation works started in the factory. They should last around three years and will provide the AMEL yard with an outstanding production tool and will ensure the long-term future of this historic player of the yachting industry.

Thanks to this transformation the company will benefit from the latest technological developments, preserve the quality of life at work and the safety of their employees, adapt their production facilities to the size of the current and future boat ranges, develop their processes and increase their production capacity.

The project, which has been named “P.H.A.R.E” (Préserver l’Héritage AMEL en le Réinventant Ensemble — Preserve AMEL Legacy and Reinvent it Together – « phare » is the French name for « lighthouse »), will be achieved in several steps:

  • STEP 1 : Moving the boat assembly area into Building 1 (Start of works in July 2023 with the construction of an extension to this building),
  • STEP 2 : Moving Logistics and Carpentry into Building 1 (2024),
  • STEP 3 : Dismantling the current Building 2, re-building it and moving the Composite activity to the New Building 2 (2025)
  • STEP 4 : Dismantling the Building 3, and replacing it with a natural space (2025).

These works, which involve both enlarging and rebuilding the existing premises, will be carried out while keeping the production of boats on order. To avoid any further disturbance to our production over the coming months, we have decided not to attend the Düsseldorf boat show in January 2024 (indeed, presenting a boat each year at this show generates heavy constraints on our factory organization).

Mediterranean office is also undergoing some changes, although on a smaller scale. By early 2024,the team will move to new premises located next to the main boating companies and services of the port of Hyères. We look forward to presenting all these changes to you.

NEW AMEL RANGE EQUIPMENT, FOR GREATER AUTONOMY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION …

1– RENEWABLE ENERGY

The cockpit shelter, a signature feature of AMEL sailboats, offers an optimal surface for the installation of solar panels, providing more autonomy for energy production.

Previously offered as an option, these panels with a regulator, delivering 24 V to the batteries with an efficiency of over 500 W, are now installed as standard on both models.

Additional solar panels attached to the davits are still available as an option (output: 2 x 400W, also with a regulator to provide 24 V).

2– GREY WATER DISCHARGE LIMITATION
In addition to a 45-liter sump, an additional 200-liter tank for grey water retention is now installed as standard on AMEL 50 sailboats, to better respect the ecosystems of visited anchorages without compromising onboard comfort (showers, sink, dishwasher, washing machine, etc.).

3– BIOCIDES LIMITATION

On both the AMEL 50 and 60, an environmentally-friendlier and more durable antifouling is applied to the hull as standard.

…BUT ALSO FOR GREATER COMFORT AND PERFORMANCE

1– CARBON MAST
Standard on the 60, the carbon mast is offered as an option on the 50. This composite material reduces rigging weight, making it stiffer and more efficient. With lower weight, the center of gravity is lowered, limiting roll and pitch, enhancing comfort during navigation and at anchor. This mast features a furling system, developed in partnership with LORIMA, an internationally renowned composite rigging specialist.

2– EFFICIENT PROPULSION PROP
A folding-blade propeller is installed as standard on both AMEL models.

3– OTHER EQUIPMENT:

On the 50: a 150 HP engine, glass windshield with optional electric wipers, optional stern thruster, folding steps in the cockpit, additional handrail on the shelter, composite steering wheel, oven and induction cooktop, 4000 W inverter, 230/24 V chargers with 60 A and 110 A standard, induction chargers inside the boat. On the 60: 230/24 V chargers with 60 A and 110 A standard, induction chargers inside the boat
