It was tense until the end between the three men who dominated this only French stage of the EuroCup Waszp circuit. Finally, after the last two races held on Sunday morning in the breeze, the international hierarchy was respected. World leader and reigning world champion Federico Bergamasco thus won at La Grande Motte after a brilliant series of 5 victories in the 11 rounds held since Friday. The residents of the Mediterranean Training Center, Hippolyte Gruet and Mattéo Chaboud, completed the podium in order.

A thunderous finale on Sunday morning in the waters of La Grande Motte, buffeted by a strong northwesterly wind. The race committee stuck to two races, as the sailing was becoming tricky on the small flying dinghies. A dozen competitors withdrew from this very autumnal finale… Fatigue, minor breakages, and minor injuries got the better of their desire to race.

In these tough conditions , the three strong men of this event responded. Winner of the last race, the big favorite Italian Federico Bergamasco brilliantly won the general classification, not without having battled with the two locals Hippolyte Gruet and Mattéo Chaboud, respectively 2nd and 3rd.

Behind, the race for the chocolate medal was just as intense for Alexandre Grognuz, Noé Dumaine and Baptiste Courtias!

In the women’s race , Germany’s Julia Gebhard put in a very good performance, winning the event ahead of Switzerland’s Lena Fries. Young Margot Berenger (YCGM and CEM) took third place.

The results of this event, supported by the Yacht Club de la Grande Motte and around thirty valuable volunteers, are positive, both for the organizers and for the 32 racers (8 nations represented) who made the trip to Occitanie. They are returning home a little groggy, with 11 races under their belts and three days of intense sailing… Excellent preparation before the December final in Barcelona.
