Despite the fact that registrations have already exceeded the 2,300 places required, the organisers are still appealing to the community to widen the range of profiles and ensure the best possible rotation in each of the six shifts. Those interested in joining the Team B volunteer team for the 37th America’s Cup Barcelona 2024 have until the 15th December to apply for one of the three available areas: On-land operations, On-water operations and Media & TV.

The America’s Cup volunteer programme continues to go from strength to strength. With one month to go until the deadline for registration, on December 15th, the number of applications is growing steadily and is already approaching 3,000 people interested in joining Team B, the largest volunteer team in the 172-year history of the America’s Cup.

The aim of the organising body of the 37th America’s Cup (ACE Barcelona) is to create a diverse and inclusive community, that will transcend beyond the 2,300 candidates who will be selected to take part in the event from August 2024. For this reason, ACE Barcelona is making a final call for the participation of citizens in order to be able to count on the greatest variety of profiles and to ensure the best rotation in each of the planned sessions.

The members of Team B will not only be able to live first-hand the experience of participating in one of the most popular sporting events on the planet, but will also gain valuable experience through training and specific information sessions in each of the three volunteer areas that make up the programme: On-water operations, On-land operations and Media & TV.

Among the range of available profiles, the ones that focus on sustainability stand out, as well as the support places both on land (from the Media Centre, the Fan Zone of the Olympic Port, the Race Village) and on the water, with the assistance of the marshals and the rest of the organisation that will ensure the success of the event.

An opportunity to recapture the spirit of Barcelona ’92

According to Grant Dalton, CEO of ACE Barcelona, one of the aims of the 37th America’s Cup is “to recapture for Barcelona the Olympic spirit of the 1992 Games.” For this reason, the organisation is encouraging the public to take part in the event through volunteering, especially the younger generations, who were not able to live that unforgettable experience of the Olympic Games first hand, back in 1992.

ACE Barcelona aspires to the fact that, in addition to going down in history as the largest volunteer programme ever for the America’s Cup, Team B will be a diverse, inclusive and representative team of Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain. For this reason, and in the same way as the selection process for the first preliminary regatta held in September in Vilanova i la Geltrú, all age groups and demographics will be taken into account, with special mention to the people living in the neighbourhoods closest to the event, who continue to respond positively to the organisation’s call.

The 37th America’s Cup Barcelona 2024 will last a maximum of ten weeks, from 22 August to the end of October 2024. This edition will also feature important new features such as the Puig Women’s America’s Cup, the first women’s competition in the event’s history, and the Youth America’s Cup, for athletes aged between 18 and 25.

An active community all year round

In addition to the key dates of the programme, such as the announcement of the selected candidates and the specific training sessions, the 37th America’s Cup volunteer community will be able to enjoy a series of activities prior to the event.

For example, on Saturday 2nd December 2023, the members of Team B and the volunteer team of the Vilanova i la Geltrú regatta are invited to enjoy a day of camaraderie at the America’s Cup Experience in Barcelona, where, in addition to a visit to the facilities of the first official America’s Cup exhibition centre, they will be able to enjoy the live Final of the second Preliminary Regatta of the 37th America’s Cup, to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The countdown has begun and people interested in being a part of a sporting event in which the best sailors in the world participate, have one more month to register through this link and join an historic event for the city of Barcelona and world sport.
