Canada’s fleet racing battle with Spain, which saw the Canucks miss out on a place in the LA Final by a single point, has been unpicked in SailGP’s new all-access docuseries Through the Lens.
Through the Lens goes behind the scenes of Canada’s race weekend in LA, from the press conference on Friday to a blow by blow account of each fleet race.
Fans can gain unique insight into how the team prepares and executes each race, as well as analysis of the conditions and particular F50 configuration of each race day.
Specifically, the first episode of the new series focuses on the neck-and-neck fight to the Final between Canada and Spain. Diego Botin’s Spanish team scraped into the three-boat showdown by a single, one-point margin and went onto win the event.
Had Canada finished 3rd inside of 4th in the final fleet race, or had Spain finished 10th instead of 9th, it would have been Canada that proceeded into the Final instead.
“To review the weekend, we had a lot of points left out there on the racing and to come within one point of missing the Final is a little disappointing when you know you can be so much better,” Canada driver Phil Robertson said.
“We’ll be hitting the drawing board pretty hard I think and putting our heads down and dig right into it and come back fresh with some new ideas.”
