TO PROMOTE NATIONAL WATER SAFETY DAYS
US Sailing and USA Swimming are thrilled to announce their collaboration in promoting National Water Safety Days on May 14th and May 15th. The collaboration aims to raise awareness about water safety and drowning prevention across the United States.
As two leading organizations in aquatic sports, US Sailing and USA Swimming recognize the importance of ensuring the safety of individuals in and around the water. With a shared commitment to education and advocacy, both organizations are dedicated to reducing the number of water-related incidents and fostering a culture of safety within their respective communities.
Through this collaboration, US Sailing and USA Swimming will leverage their combined resources and expertise to offer a variety of educational initiatives and activities throughout four National Water Safety Days. These efforts will include:
- Educational Campaigns: Providing resources and information on water safety best practices through social media, websites, and other communication channels.
- Community Outreach: Collaborating with local organizations, schools, and recreational facilities to host water safety clinics, demonstrations, and events.
- Training Programs: Offering certification courses and training sessions for individuals interested in becoming lifeguards, swim instructors, or sailing instructors.
- Youth Engagement: Engaging young athletes and families through interactive workshops, games, and educational materials designed to promote water safety awareness from an early age.
- Advocacy Initiatives: Advocating for policies and legislation that support water safety education and drowning prevention efforts at the local, state, and national levels.
In working together with USA Swimming, US Sailing aims to expand its reach and impact within the broader aquatic community, reaching individuals of all ages and backgrounds with crucial water safety information and resources in effort to minimize the fear of swimming as a barrier to entry in sailing.
“We are excited to collaborate with USA Swimming on National Water Safety Days,” said Alan Ostfield, CEO of US Sailing. “By combining our efforts and expertise, we can make a significant difference in promoting water safety and preventing drowning incidents across the country.”
“Water safety is a top priority for USA Swimming, and we are proud to collaborate with US Sailing to raise awareness and educate individuals about the importance of staying safe in and around the water,” said Tim Hinchey, President and CEO of USA Swimming. “Together, we can empower people of all ages to enjoy aquatic activities responsibly and confidently.”
National Water Safety Days serve as an opportunity for communities nationwide to come together and prioritize water safety education and drowning prevention. US Sailing and USA Swimming invite individuals, families, organizations, and policymakers to join them in this important initiative and help create safer environments for all who enjoy aquatic activities. The goal is to raise comfort in swimming and then provide next available avenues and sports that people can get involved in with that increased comfort and education. Sailing is one of those activities and many local sailing clubs are opening their doors to new members and participants after these events.
