The start of the 12th Route du Rhum will finally take place on Wednesday

Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe

Initially scheduled for this Sunday at 1:02 p.m., then postponed due to weather conditions, the start of the 12th Rum Route – Destination Guadeloupe will finally take place on Wednesday at 2:15 p.m., with a much more favorable weather forecast.

The 138 skippers of La Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe are now ready and can plan a new beginning. This Sunday, during a press conference organized at 10:00 a.m. in Saint-Malo, the organizer OC Sport Pen Duick and the race director, Francis Le Goff, officially announced that the start of the 12th edition will finally be Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. m. “Very manageable weather conditions are expected in this time slot with a west wind of around fifteen knots,” explains Francis Le Goff. The situation will be favorable for the exit of the Canal, with an excellent reliability forecast of over 90%. The start of the race will therefore be much less delicate than if the start had been given this Sunday. »

Committed sailors will be called for a weather briefing the day before departure. The 38 IMOCAs and the 8 Ocean Fifty will leave the Saint-Malo docks on Tuesday afternoon (times to be defined). The Class40s and Rhum Mono and Rhum Multi categories will go through the lock on Wednesday morning. The device will be similar to the one deployed for the launch of Ultim 32/23 last Friday, with stands accessible to the public.

As planned, this Sunday will be the last day of opening of the leisure village, open to everyone until 5:00 p.m. It will allow visitors to approach and admire the ships still present in the docks before their Atlantic career.

The mobilization of the organizational system was readjusted in record time, which made it possible to prolong the enthusiasm and emotion of the race. And this thanks to the commitment to the organizer OC Sport Pen Duick of the Guadeloupe Region, the City of Saint-Malo, the Brittany Region, the CIC, the state resources, the SNBSM volunteers and all the forces involved.
