The Ocean Race to convene High Level Roundtable at Davos

The Ocean Race will bring the spirit of ocean racing and teamwork to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland next week with Race Chairman, Richard Brisius, chairing a high-level roundtable co-hosted with Greek House Davos.

The Roundtable will highlight and illustrate the role of the Ocean, and its connection to business and the wider economy, and showcase the relation of the Ocean to global efforts towards climate change mitigation and biodiversity enhancement.

Among the participants will be: John Kerry, United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate; Dr. Dionysia Theodora Avgerinopoulou, Chair of the Hellenic Parliament Environment Committee; Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars; Peter Thomson, United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean; Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line; Barbara Karuth-Zelle, COO of Allianz; Paul Simpson, CEO and Founder, Cornerstone United Holdings Jamaica; and Simon Fisher from 11th Hour Racing Team, the only navigator to win The Ocean Race twice.

The focus of the Roundtable will be on the need for a new relationship between humanity and the Ocean, address the value of Ocean biodiversity and Marine Protected Areas, identify measures for reduction of Marine Pollution, and highlight the Ocean/Climate nexus and calls to Ocean action from business. It will also spark thoughts on AI capabilities to accelerate the restoration of Ocean Health, and underline Our Ocean Conference 2024 and UN Ocean Conference 2025 as key opportunities.

The High Level Roundtable, held according to Chatham House Rules, will engage high level leaders and changemakers from the worlds of sport, business, government, science, philanthropy and NGOs, to discuss opportunities and challenges in relation to alternative, groundbreaking measures around ocean health.
