Super Sunday in The Range Rover France Sail Grand Prix

The Range Rover France Sail Grand Prix, taking place this weekend amongst the glitz and glamour of Saint-Tropez, promises to be an absolutely thrilling event as we continue the drama and excitement of SailGP Season 3.

Racing in the Côte d’Azur starts at 14:30 CEST on Saturday, with a new format in place to mix things up on the racecourse and ensure more entertainment for fans.

Strong winds on Race Day 1 promise some breakneck speeds, but there is plenty else to watch out for in Saint-Tropez. Check out the top five things to keep an eye on at the Range Rover France Sail Grand Prix, below…

France Sail Grand Prix | Saint-Tropez | Season 3 | Quentin Delapierre

Delapierre hungry to perform on home waters

A second-place finish at the ROCKWOOL Denmark Sail Grand Prix was Quentin Delapierre’s best-ever performance in SailGP – but he’s not content to stop there, especially now it’s the France SailGP Team’s home event.

Delapierre and his crew are fighting for not just points in the Season Championship, but also for pride and hometown glory.

He’s ready for all the drama this weekend, but Delapierre knows the French won’t be getting an easy ride despite their home advantage.

“It is really difficult to perform in SailGP, the level is so high,” he said. “For sure we want to be brilliant here in Saint-Tropez, but we have to take it step-by-step and this event will be the same.

Introducing: SailGP’s Super Sunday

SailGP events have just got bigger and better than ever before, with confirmation that an extra Fleet Race has been added to the schedule. There will now be FOUR races in total on the second day of racing, with a sixth Fleet Race to take place before the Final.

And it’s fair to say Phil Robertson, the Canada driver, is a big fan.

“I think it’s great,” said Robertson. “We’ve come here to race as we are racers, and if we can squeeze more races into the window then we are super happy.

“Y esto cambia bastante la táctica, porque normalmente llegas al domingo en una posición en la que intentas defender o atacar de verdad, y ahora todo eso se ha desechado. Así que creo que será una serie diferente a partir de ahora”.

Outteridge to repeat Saint-Tropez victory?

Nathan Outteridge’s first event on the Switzerland boat was rather disappointing, with a seventh-place finish in Copenhagen. But the Aussie legend has history in Saint-Tropez, winning the Season 2 France Sail Grand Prix this time last year.

Outteridge’s Japan team defeated the United States and Spain in the three-team winner-takes-all Final to claim their victory last September, and he’ll be hoping to repeat his winning feat this time around – although whether he can do that with a still winless Switzerland remains to be seen.

Kiwis going for hat-trick of wins

New Zealand had been one of the biggest disappointments in SailGP, until Peter Burling’s team picked up its first event win in Plymouth in July. And after tasting victory, the Kiwis were not ready to give it up – going on to claim a second successive victory in Copenhagen last time out.

Season 3 // ROCKWOOL Denmark Sail Grand Prix // New Zealand crew celebrate

Their performance in Denmark was pure dominance – a clean sweep of Fleet Race wins before claiming victory in the Final – and New Zealand are going for three-in-a-row in Saint-Tropez.

Can they achieve it? Tune in to find out!
