The countdown to SailGP’s third visit to the iconic island of Bermuda is on, with just one week to go before the F50 fleet returns to the Great Sound.
Preparations are well underway for the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix, which takes place on May 4/5 and marks the 10th stop on Season 4’s 14-event calendar.
The racecourse, race times and race crews have all been confirmed ahead of the event, with teams heading out on the water in the coming days for crucial training.
Practice racing will take place on Friday, allowing the fleet to size each other up before official racing kicks off on Saturday, May 4 with three fleet races. Two further fleet races will take place on Sunday before the all-important three-boat, winner-takes-all Final.
Bermuda comes as the fleet enters the business end of the season, with limited time left to move up the leaderboard and make San Francisco’s season defining Grand Final. It follows a dramatic event in Christchurch, New Zealand, which saw devastating penalties dished out to Emirates GBR, ROCKWOOL DEN and Australia. The latter stripped the Aussies of 10 season points, pushing them down to second overall behind the Kiwis.
All three teams will be looking to bounce back when racing gets underway next weekend, with Tom Slingsby’s Australia gunning to set the record straight and reclaim the season lead from Peter Burling’s New Zealand.
The Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix takes place on May 4/5, with racing from 14:00 ADT.
