Rolex Giraglia 2022 – Second day of coastal races in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez

A smooth breeze welcomed the Rolex Giraglia fleet for the second day of coastal races. A course of 19 miles was set for the smaller boats and one of 15 miles for the maxi yachts. The easterly wind of around 8 to 10 knots remained stable all day.

From the Pampelonne race course – where the maxis are competing – the rankings after three races have confirmed yesterday’s results, with the three leading boats adding to their wins.

Staying in the lead, therefore, in their respective groups, are Jethou, owned by Sir Peter Ogden (with a 1,1,1 scoreline) in the IRC1 group, Capricorn, owned by Alessandro Del Bono (1,1,1) in the IRC2 and Leaps & Bounds 2, owned by Jean-Luc Blanpain, (1,1,1) in the ORC category.

In the other divisions, among the IRC yachts, after two races Gianmarco Magrini’s Vito 2 (1,11) maintains the lead among the IRC1 yachts, while Les Minots de La Nautique, owned by Victor Bordes Laridan (2,2) is at the head of the IRC2.

In the ORC group, the top spot is occupied by the Argentinian Swan 45 From Now On, owned by Fernando Chain (4,1), while Farfallina 2, owned by Davide Noli (3,1) leads among the ORC 2 boats.

The Rolex Giraglia continues tomorrow, with the third and final day of inshore races and an ever-sharper focus – particularly with regard to the weather forecast – in view of the start of the ‘long race’ on Wednesday 15th at 12 noon.

Meanwhile at the La Ponche beach in Saint-Tropez the stage that will be central to tomorrow night’s Rolex Party is attracting attention from curious passers-by. The details of the evening are top secret, but as always guests are certain to be treated to a host of surprises and special effects. Back in the port, Quai Jean Jaurès is teeming with sailors, collateral events abound and the final crews who have travelled here for the “long race” are arriving. The countdown is on and adrenalin levels are rising, but there is still one more day of coastal races to complete, where the rankings could well get shaken up.
