Robby Naish – The Longest Wave

Robby Naish

Over the course of 40 years, the professional waterman, Robby Naish, won more than 150 tournament victories and became a 24-time world champion.

Now in his fifties, as he figures out what to accomplish next in his life, the documentaryThe Longest Wave sheds light on his career transitioning from competition to life after professional sports, a rarely documented perspective.

From award-winning director Joe Berlinger (The Cecil Hotel, Paradise Lost, Brother’s Keeper, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster and Crude), the new windsurfing documentary, The Longest Wave, premieres worldwide on Red Bull TV, a broadcast On Free demand on August 10.

Berlinger departs from the true crime drama to immerse himself in a world totally unknown to him. The Longest Wave transcends the action sports category by capturing obstacles outside of the legendary athlete’s professional life in an intimate, cinéma-vérité style, revealing Naish balancing the pursuit of excellence at sea with the demands of the challenges of life on land, including family, injuries, aging, and the risks of continuing to participate in significantly dangerous sports.

While examining a different thematic genre with The Longest Wave, Berlinger sticks to the type. Having created a film in which he delves into the psyche of musicians and serial killers, the most recent focus of him, a successful competitive athlete, is not surprising. By choosing interesting, and not necessarily obvious, lead characters for each of his documentaries, the award-winning Director manages to capture those extra moments, the deeply ingrained personality traits that seem to transcend through chosen areas of interest, adding athlete this time to his repertoire.

Common traits of Berlinger’s chosen themes include attention to detail, a desire to succeed, a need for enthusiasm, an ability to keep a clear mind, and an unrivaled aptitude for handling stress * that he is expertly documented in his latest movie with Naish.

Robby Naish won his first world windsurfing title at age 13 and has been at the forefront of windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, and most recently foil boarding. Berlinger exposes what happens when a 24-time world champion from Hawaii is told that he paved the way for new extreme sports. Does the clock stop ticking and everything he has worked for comes to an abrupt end? Robby is far from ready for his life to lose the meaning and purpose that he has always relied on.

The Longest Wave is a film that looks at the man behind the sports he grew up in, and who has achieved what he is told is his last goal, his last title. The film captures the story of the man who continues his quest for brilliance by challenging himself to ride the longest wave in the world, but unexpectedly reveals his vulnerabilities as a businessman, an innovator who is constantly creating and developing, as a talent mentor. future and as a father who has been traveling many days of the life of his daughters.

The film opens on August 10 only on Red Bull TV, a free on-demand streaming service available on the web and as an app on devices large and small.
