PILAR LA MADRID AND NICOLA GOYARD WIN FIRST IQFOIL INTERNATIONAL GAMES OF 2022

IQFOIL INTERNATIONAL GAMES

Strong winds, high swell, and spectacular racing at the finals of the IQFOiL International Games Act 1 in Lanzarote, Spain. After a stunning knock-out final it is Spanish Pilar La Madrid bringing home her first international victory. La Madrid is joined on the podium by Marion Mortefon in second and Lucie Belbeoch in third, both from France. At the men, it’s Nicolas Goyard who takes the gold back home to France. Where Goyard battled all week with Dutchies Luuc van Opzeeland and Huig-Jan Tak it is Brazilian Mateus Isaac who grabs the silver before youngster Finn Hawkins (GBR).

La Madrid takes first international gold
For La Madrid, who was leading sovereign all week, this gold medal was a special one. La Madrid: “This is my first big international event that I manage to win, so I’m super happy. Today it was super windy and wavy so half of the downwind I could only sail on my arms, but I managed and I’m super, super happy!”

Goyard: on to the next one!
Nicolas Goyard: “Today it was really windy, really wavy. I watched the quarter and the semifinal from the shore, which was amazing to see. That I could finish it in the final is super nice, especially as it’s the first event of the year. Thanks to my coach and to all the people on the shore that came to see us. A lot of people did come out to the pier to watch the final races. Thank you for coming, that made it even more amazing. I think we put on a great show on the water for them. Thank you and on to the next one!”
