WINNERS AT THE PERSICO 69F CUP GP2.1 IN PUNTALDIA
Persico 69F Cup at Marina di Puntaldia continues with GP2.2 starting on Thursday
The GP2.1 Persico 69F Cup, a three-day highly competitive event in one of the best race courses in the Mediterranean, Puntaldia, has just ended, crowning Fin1Racing team for the third GP in a row. Allan Norregaard, Janne Jarvinen and Iago Lopez won 15 of the 18 races, leaving no doubts about their very high level, achieved in just a few months, given that their first event was here in Puntaldia for the 2021 season finale.
“We are really happy to come away with a win again” – says an enthusiastic Allan Norregaard. “Thanks to a really nice performance from the whole team Fin1Racing, but of course we are still working on a lot of things and we still have a lot of tricks to learn about this boat and its big potential to be getting a lot better, and so we’ll keep working on how improving ourselves. We won’t be doing GP2.2 but we’ll be back in September in Garda, we are looking forward to that, it’s always such a nice place to sail.”
In second position we find Groupe Atlantic, from France, once again relegated to the role of pursuers, but very closely, and in third position are Okalys Youth Project.
After the celebrations for the end of the GP2.1 Persico 69F Cup, everything is ready to start again at the Marina di Puntaldia for the GP2.2, with seven other teams ready to battle it out in the crystal clear waters in the shadow of the majestic island of Tavolara. There will be no Finns, but the French of Groupe Atlantic with Clement Cron, Valentin Sipan and Louis Chambet will keep on racing. Another pleasant return is that of SDS Swiss Dental Solutions with Ulrich, Coco and Anne-Sophie Volz, who will alternate on board with Federico Colaninno and Ettore Botticini.
“I like Persico 60F a lot, it is my first extreme sailing experience, and it’s fascinating how a boat that goes so fast can actually make you still feel super safe! We have a great team indeed and that helps for safety, but also seeing Dede (De Luca) and so many 69F Team members on the ribs around you on the racecourse is reassuring” – says Carolina Volz.
“I switch between races with my sisters, the boat is amazing and it is good to be able to jump off and watch from the ribs, you learn so much from observing the others. Like in Valenica this year was different for me, cause last year I was doing the jib, this time I was lifting the boards, it was a job more physical, and I liked it. I am improving everyday, even though I still have a long way to go.. It helps improving my sailing skills, also for other classes.
In Puntaldia this weekend I expect to grow together as a team, so that everyone knows what to do and what the others are doing and everything runs smoothly. I hope for windy conditions, but too windy, I call it ‘lady’s wind’. I also love the socials events, and in Puntaldia there are some, well organized and in a beautiful place, it’s nice socializing and connecting with the other teams.”
From Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th of June, several teams will also get on the racecourse for the first time, such as S2B, from the Compagnia della Vela Venezia with Alberto Giovannini, Federico Quaia, Tommaso Gabbrielli and Francesco Bianchi on board. Rocco Falcone’s Antigua Rum Runners, in Sardinia directly from the Caribbean island, will also join the fleet with Team Solano, Parmigiano and Helvetia Purple by Normandy Elite Team, all ready to fly over the waters of Puntaldia aboard the Persico 69F and claim victory.
