ORC / IRC World Championship 2022 will be held in Porto Cervo
The Offshore Racing Congress (ORC), the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) announced that the next ORC / IRC World Championship will take place in the waters. from Sardinia, Porto Cervo, from June 18 to 26, 2022.
It will be the second World Championship in which the two international rating systems recognized by World Sailing will be used together, taking into account that the event scheduled for this year in the United States, at the New York Yacht Club, has been previously canceled. restrictions. Covid-19 contagion. The first World Cup using combined ORC / IRC systems was held in 2018 in The Hague, the Netherlands, bringing together 85 yachts from 15 countries.
The ORC Offshore and Events Committee together with the IRC Board have decided to assign the organization of the event to the YCCS, once the work table (composed of representatives of the ORC, IRC and YCCS) begins the planning phase of all aspects, including the regatta format and scoring.
As in the previous edition, the fleet will be divided into three classes, identified based on the size and speed of the participating boats, and the winner of each will receive the title of World Champion.
The announcement of the race will be published in June 2021, approximately one year before the start of the races.
