North Sails Snipe
The North Sails Snipe North Americans concluded today at the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly, MA with a familiar result. Ernesto Rodriguez and Kathleen Tocke were once again on top of the podium.
This was the second time in a little over a week that they had dominated a major event having just flown back from Split, Croatia with a first place finish in the Snipe European Championship.
The NAs podium was dominated by the Miami Snipe fleet. Enrique Quintero and Charlie Bass were second, with Augie Diaz and Barbara Brotons in third. Carol Cronin and Kim Couranz were fourth and high school sailors Justin Callahan with Enzo Menditto were unable to collect their fifth place trophy cause they had to go do their homework.
Almost 40% of the fleet was under the age of 30. In fact some quick, back of the envelope math revealed that the fleet at Jubilee Yacht Club in 2021 was a younger average age than at the 2019 Snipe Nationals.
Sailors traveled from both coasts and the middle of the US. Border restrictions prevented any of our Canadian friends from attending. We hoisted a glass in their honor and hope for safer times in the future when we can all be together.
Next up for the Snipe Class is the Western Hemisphere and Orient Championship at the Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop MA. All eyes will be on Ernesto and Kathleen to see if they can complete an intercontinental September Hat trick with three major championships in a single month.
The organizers of the North Sails Snipe North Americans wish to thank the Jubilee Yacht Club, North Sails, Kinder Industries, JibeTech, El Jefe Racing and our numerous other sponsors.
