New Cape2Rio entry HYPR aims to smash Monohull record
Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC) and Iate Club do Rio de Janeiro (ICRJ) take pleasure in announcing this marque race entry; HYPR (ex-Camper, ex-Warrior) the much modified and optimised racing machine has her sights firmly set on the Monohull record that has stood the test of time since the 2014 edition of the race.
What is fitting is that HYPR and Monohull Race Record holder Maserati (ex – E3) are both built to the same exiting VO70 Rule, pedigree racing machines purpose built to break records and take on any ocean.
Owner Kees Bos and skipper Jens Lindner see the 10d, 11h, 29m 57s record as the goal to start off the 2023 racing season for HYPR. The yacht is sailed by a core racing crew and provides opportunities for passionate yachtspersons to join their team, creating a working compliment of professional and Corinthian sailors at the highest level. The boat will be delivered on her own bottom to Cape Town, another great offshore opportunity for sailors to gain miles and experience. This past Caribbean season has seen some exciting and spectacular racing for the HYPR crew; RORC C600 and the Heineken Regatta St Maarten. The boat has now returned to Europe to prepare for the 2022 North Sea and Mediterranean season.

When asked about his motivation for entering the C2R2023, Kees had the following to say: “We are very excited to join this iconic race and the opportunity to race in the South Atlantic.”
C2R2023 Race Director Anthony Spillebeen added: “It has been our ambition from the day we announced Cape2Rio Race 2023 to attract as many of the ocean greyhounds past and present that participate in all the great regattas of the world. Having the likes of HYPR and Black Pearl on our start line is significant. The Cape2Rio Race has a long line of pedigreed participants and illustrious winners and we hope that this entry by HYPR will galvanise other high-profile boats to visit our shores and race to Rio de Janeiro on 2 January 2023.”
