The Argentina Open Championship had – finally – some races today at the Dársena Norte venue of the Yacht Club Argentino, prior to the start of the Moth Class World Championship.
Four races were completed with winds from the ESE with an intensity of 7 to 12 knots. They were very long, tiring but very interesting races.
The winner of the championship was the Italian Francesco Bruni, former Olympic sailor, and America’s Cup helmsman.
The fastest boat was definetly Dylan Fletcher Scott, Olympic champion in the 49er class in Tokyo 2020. Fletcher won three of the four races, but was disqualified in the third race and relegated him to fifth overall.
The best female representative was Helena Scutt.
As for the local fleet, the best placed Argentinean was Massimo Contessi, who, with a break in the first race, achieved 4-1-4 pars, and was positioned in eighth place overall.
The podium was as follows:
1. Francesco Bruni
2. Simone Salva
3. Richard Didham
With only a few days to go before the World Championship, expectations are growing. These regattas of preparation and training, allow to see many boats testing material and assembling,
Tomorrow is accreditation and measurement day and on Monday the World Championship Moth 2022 will officially start.
The first races will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a rest day on Thursday, and will be resumed on Friday until Sunday, December 4, with a grand finale.
