Unusual house built from the stern of a boat is for sale
This “houseboat” for sale in Mercer Island, Washington, was once the USS Manzanita, built for the United States Coast Guard in 1908, and later part of the United States Navy.
It is now on sale for $ 2 million.
Holden Scott, owner of the house, says that in 1949, the boat would be scrapped when a local librarian and her father bought the aft portion of the ship for $ 1000 and took it to Mercer Island.
Upon arriving, trees were cut to make the stern as a base for a house.
What used to be a fifth of a boat was then converted into a residence, permanently fixed on land. The converted boat is now a 1,390 square foot (423.7 m²) home, with three bedrooms, a full bathroom and two half baths.
