Ecoracer, the world’s first recyclable sportboat, hits the water
Ecoracer for the first time sailing and already among the finalists of the 11th Hour Racing Sustainability Award, an award dedicated to sustainable projects of by the World Sailing Federation.
Ecoracer – the 7.69 meter boat already designed by Matteo Polli and engineered by the nlcomp team – is the first recyclable sportboat on the market and won the winner of the Design Innovation Award at the Genoa Boat Show, where it was presented to the public for the first time.
The first ecoracer official video was unveiled in the previous days during the online evening event organized by nlcomp and Yacht Club Hannibal, which was broadcasted on the Zerogradinord channels.
The boat not only has a recyclable hull thanks to nlcomp’s Composite technology, but is also equipped with a set of recyclable sails at the end of its life thanks to the technology 4T FORTE by Onesails – unique in the world -, it has an “ecobraid” mainsheet made with a mix of linen fiber and polyester fiber from recycled PET made ad hoc by Armare Ropes and is equipped with a solar panel that powers the bilge pumps; the engine is an electric outboard supplied by the Italian company Mitek.
For the innovative startup Northern Light Composites it is the second time among the finalists of the World Sailing Award: in 2020 the small dinghy ecoprimus, the first recyclable keel in the world, was awarded with the nomination.
