DAY 4 MOTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2021

DAY 4 “REDORO FRANTOI VENETI” MOTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2021

ITALIAN RESURGENCE, NEW ZEALAND BREAKS INTO THE TOP 5

5 races with variable Ora test the technical skills of the athletes but the script does not change: Slingsby still perfect, Phil Robertson breaks into the top 5 and Checco Bruni climbs back to sixth

Different conditions for this fifth day of the Redoro Frantoi Veneti” Moth World Championship; the weakest Ora of the past few days forces the athletes to squeeze the most out of their boats. The last race of the day was particularly complex with the waning wind on Lake Garda.

The sailors of the Silver fleet descended into the water in front of the Fraglia Vela Malcesine at 3 PM in order to give the breeze time to stabilize. After 2 tight regattas the fleet leadership changes, with Philipp Hribar from Austria in the lead; second and losing one place from Denmark Frederik Just Melson, and Luka Dogan in third, also losing a position.

Among the Gold fleet, the first position remains occupied by the phenomenon Tom Slingsby from Australia at 10 points with three first places on the day.
Second, now 24 points behind, the SailGP opponent Iain Jensen, Australia, with a fifth place today and two sub-par races to be dropped.
Nathan Outteridge closes out the podium, confirming an all-Australian top 3.

Positive day for the Italians racing: Checco Bruni climbs up to sixth position and Ruggero Tita earns a spot to put himself in fifth place.
Simone Salvà, athlete of the Fraglia Vela Malcesine, consolidates his placement in the top 10, precisely ninth, with an excellent day.

Paul Goodison: “Fun day on Lake Garda, with perfect conditions for the first two races. The last was complicated with a weakening Ora; I did a lot of low-riding which with the new mast following yesterday’s accident did not help me much. I almost beat Tom Slingsby in the second round, it would have been nice, but he’s going really fast ”.

The day ends at Speck Stube Malcesine, social event that closes this second day of the finals of the “Redoro Frantoi Veneti” Moth World Championship.

Tomorrow warning signal at 8 AM for the Gold fleet with ideally 2 races scheduled, followed by 2 races for the Silver; if the conditions allow it, further regattas will take place in the afternoon.

Provisional Ranking

1 – Tom Slingsby
1 – Iain Jensen
3 – Nathan Outteridge
4 – Phil Robertson
5 – Ruggero Tita
