CORUM L’Épargne in The Ocean Race Europe

CORUM L’Épargne confirms its participation in The Ocean Race Europe

The CORUM L’Épargne Sailing Team, led by skipper Nicolas Troussel, has confirmed that it will participate this spring, with its new generation IMOCA, in the first edition of The Ocean Race Europe.

The Ocean Race Europe is a compelling new challenge for us,” said skipper Nicolas Troussel. “Being a regatta with a full crew from the Atlantic coast of France to the Mediterranean Sea with several stages, it has an interesting route. For us it will be a new style of racing and it fits well with the calendar of our racing season. ”

The Ocean Race Europe is a new event, created by the organizers of The Ocean Race as part of a ten-year competition program until 2031. The European event will take place every four years (2021, 2025 and 2029), in the periods between the round-the-world editions of The Ocean Race (2022-23, 2026-27 and 2030-31), to ensure continuity in the competition calendar.

This first edition of The Ocean Race Europe will have two fleets in action: the state-of-the-art IMOCA class and the VO65 monotypes. The tour will have several qualifying stages between emblematic European cities.

“Confirmation by Nicolas Troussel and the CORUM L’Épargne Sailing Team that they will be on the starting line of The Ocean Race Europe immediately raises the bar for the IMOCA fleet,” says Race Director Phil Lawrence. “We believe there will be broad participation in both classes, and the competition will feature the top names in our sport.”

Nicolas Troussel has twice won the prestigious Solitaire du Figaro and has to his credit numerous championships and podiums in major ocean regattas. His IMOCA CORUM L’Épargne is among the new generation of boats that take foiling technology to the limit.

“It will be interesting to set up the race boat with a full crew,” Troussel said. “We are still learning how to reach the full potential of the boat and what is the best configuration, so The Ocean Race Europe will be a good test for our team to face other similar boats and a great opportunity to compete again in our IMOCA. “.
