Tre Golfi Sailing Week
The offshore leg of the 70th Regata dei Tre Golfi crowns “To Be,” the Italia Yachts 11.98 from the Yacht Club Italiano, as the new ORC Mediterranean Champion.
Sorrento, 18 May 2025 – With the conclusion of the 70th Regata dei Tre Golfi, the 2025 ORC Mediterranean Championship has officially wrapped up, with victory going to To Be, the Italia Yachts 11.98 owned by Stefano Rusconi, representing the Yacht Club Italiano. The Italian team claimed the overall title and the Senator Andrea Matarazzo Cup by winning the offshore race – approximately 150 nautical miles – which started from Naples on 16 May around 4:00 pm and concluded in corrected time at the top of the leaderboard. To Be also claims the Yacht Club Italiano Trophy, awarded to the team with the most podium finishes.
This morning, at 11:30, the official awards ceremony took place at the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia in Naples. Trophies were presented by Club President Roberto Mottola di Amato, Vice President Maurizio Pavesi and the Board Member for Sailing Giuseppe Montella, in a well-attended event that celebrated both the success of the regatta and the technical level of the top-performing teams.
To Be, already a front-runner during the windward-leeward races of the ORC Mediterranean Championship held between Sorrento and Capri from 8 to 10 May, confirmed its consistency and speed in the offshore leg as well. The team finished ahead of the French crew of Confluence (GP42, Jean-Pierre Joly) and Selene Alifax, the Swan 42 owned by Massimo de Campo, who took second place in the offshore race.
“The Regata dei Tre Golfi was a superb conclusion to the series we had already sailed in Sorrento,” commented Stefano Rusconi, owner of To Be. “The final miles of the offshore had us holding our breath through the early morning hours, fearing that the smaller boats might beat us in corrected time. Personally, and on behalf of the To Be crew, we are proud of the result and fully energized for the European Championship.”
The ORC Mediterranean Championship – the opening act of the Tre Golfi Sailing Week 2025 – was structured in two parts: technical inshore races and a long offshore leg through the Gulfs of Naples, Gaeta, and Salerno, with iconic roundings of Procida, Ischia, Ventotene, Ponza, Capri, and Li Galli. A unique setting that tested the 30-strong ORC fleet from six nations. The event also served as a key rehearsal for the ORC World Championship 2026, which will take place in these very waters.
The championship was organized by the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, in collaboration with Yacht Club Italiano, Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, IMA, ORC, FIV, and UVAI, with the essential support of sponsors and partners: Rolex Official
Timepiece, Loro Piana, North Sails, Wally Yachts, Banca Patrimoni Sella & C., Ferrarelle, Ottogas, Deloitte, Italia Yachts, Le Axidie, Caffè Borbone, Schenker, Miliare, and the Consorzio Prosecco DOC.
The Tre Golfi Sailing Week now continues with the Maxi division: from 19 to 22 May in Sorrento, the spotlight turns to the IMA Maxi European Championship, another highlight of the Mediterranean racing season.
