THE TEAM TO BEAT: THE BONDS FLYING ROOS CONQUER BERMUDA

BONDS FLYING ROOS

BONDS Flying Roos cemented their place as the team to beat in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship with a statement victory at the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix.

In a weekend which delivered everything from full-on conditions to knife-edge tactical racing, Tom Slingsby’s crew rose above the chaos on the Great Sound – and sealed victory by defeating Los Gallos and Germany by Deutsche Bank in a thrilling Final.

It’s another huge win for the Aussies as they tighten their grip on the Championship standings, moving a massive ten points clear after five Grands Prix.

The victory came with co-owner Ryan Reynolds watching on in Bermuda after experiencing SailGP up close with a high-speed F50 ride and practice race appearance earlier in the weekend.

The triumph also marks a major milestone for the BONDS Flying Roos, who claimed back-to-back event wins for the first time in four seasons after following up their dominant Rio performance with another clinical display in Bermuda.

Across two dramatically different race days, the Australians once again showed they can win in any conditions – from full-on breeze on Saturday to Sunday’s lighter, tactical battles.

While the BONDS Flying Roos continue to surge, Los Gallos remain the Championship’s relentless shadow.

Diego Botín’s crew delivered yet another composed and consistent regatta to finish second overall, continuing one of the most remarkable runs in SailGP this season.

Remarkably, the Spanish team has now finished either second or third at every event they have contested in 2026 after missing the season opener in Perth through damage sustained in training.

A ninth in race six was Los Gallos’ only blip – all other results fell in the top four, proving they’re one of the toughest, fastest and most complete teams in the fleet.

Bermuda also delivered a hugely encouraging breakthrough for Germany by Deutsche Bank.

After a difficult start to their 2026 campaign, Erik Heil’s team looked transformed on the Great Sound, combining sharp starts with smart strategy to secure three podium finishes across the seven fleet races.

Their reward was a deserved place in the Final and their strongest event performance of the season so far – a result which could prove a turning point for them as the Championship heads into the North American swing.

Following their disappointment in Rio, finishing dead last, reigning SailGP champions Emirates GBR showed signs of the form that won them the opening event of 2026 as they came home fourth in Bermuda.

Explora Swiss – boasting new livery from their partnership with luxury cruise line Explora Journeys – scooped their best result of 2026 with fifth to score them vital season points.

NorthStar and the U.S. SailGP Team both showed flashes of flawed brilliance in Bermuda – but both will be keen to improve as they head to home events in New York and Halifax next.
