SAILGP SETS COURSE FOR VALENCIA IN HISTORIC THREE-YEAR DEAL
SailGP is bringing its high-octane racing to Valencia for the first time, giving fans a brand-new Mediterranean stage to witness the most exciting racing on water.
Following a new three-year host venue agreement, the inaugural Spain Sail Grand Prix | Valencia will take place on September 5–6, 2026, marking a major milestone for Spanish fans and the global SailGP community.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of the Rolex SailGP Championship season opener in Perth and confirms Valencia as a long-term stop on the championship calendar through to the 2028 Season.
The Spanish city joins an elite roster of global destinations including Rio de Janeiro, Bermuda, New York, Portsmouth and Dubai, cementing its place among the world’s most iconic waterfront arenas.
SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts said: “We are delighted to welcome Valencia to the SailGP calendar, starting this year. With its sporting heritage, world-class racing conditions, Valencia will become a natural home for SailGP as we continue to grow in Spain.
“Securing a multi-year commitment is key to delivering a world-class experience for our fans. Following Spain’s Season 4 championship title, it is clear that this nation’s passionate and truly global fanbase is a natural fit for the growth of our league, teams and partners.”
From its historic 15th-century port to its modern, world-class marina, Valencia offers the perfect backdrop for SailGP’s cutting-edge racing. The move builds on four successful seasons in Andalucía-Cádiz and brings the championship to a city renowned for hosting major international sporting events.
For home fans, the event marks a true homecoming. Diego Botín, driver of Spanish SailGP team Loss Gallos, said: “We are delighted to announce Valencia as the venue for ‘our event’. Los Gallos are coming home, and that is always excellent news. We look forward to seeing all our fans this year – and in the years to come.”
