SailGP and Aggreko extend partnership through 2027 Strengthening a shared commitment to delivering efficient temporary power solutions by clean energy
Together, SailGP and Aggreko have made significant strides in enhancing fuel efficiency across the league’s annual calendar of global events
SailGP, the most exciting racing on water, and Aggreko, the world-leading provider of mobile modular power, temperature control and energy service, have extended their partnership for an additional three seasons – serving as the Rolex SailGP Championship’s Official Temporary Power Supplier.
Since joining forces in 2021, SailGP and Aggreko have made significant progress toward a shared vision for more efficient event operations and events powered by clean energy. This led to SailGP reducing emissions from temporary power by 73% in Season 4, as compared to the season prior and further, this high operating standard of event delivery ensured SailGP retained its ISO 20121 certification.
SailGP Chief Operating Officer Julien Di Biase said, “SailGP and Aggreko share a common goal of being market leaders in efficient event operations. Having a major events group like Aggreko support driving change has been invaluable—from installing the largest temporary solar array at a sporting event in Dubai on our behalf, to helping us find clean energy solutions for events worldwide. This renewed partnership provides us with the opportunity to drive greater impact and work together to continue to pioneer within the sporting industry and beyond.”
Aggreko prides itself on delivering sustainable sporting events globally. This extended partnership reaffirms the shared commitment to deliver innovative low-emission product solutions, and an ambition for all SailGP events to be fully powered by clean energy on-shore. The first three events of the 2025 Season – in Dubai, UAE, Auckland, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia – have all been powered by 100% clean energy on-shore.
Aggreko Event Services Head of Sales David de Behr said, “Energising Change is our sustainability framework, which works in line with SailGP’s ethos. Supporting SailGP in its switch to more sustainable temporary energy solutions, while keeping the highest reliability of operations in each of the races around the world is our priority. We are thrilled to be able to continue our partnership with SailGP as it becomes one of the leading global sailing championships.”
Throughout the partnership, Aggreko and SailGP have worked together to proactively maximize fuel efficiencies onsite including green grid distribution and the use of alternative fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and B100 (100% biodiesel). The two trailblazers also introduced innovative clean energy solutions for several events in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America, which had never before been powered by clean energy. As a result, 10 clean energy (on-shore) events were achieved in Season 4 – compared to 5 in Season 3.
Together, partners also developed a live dashboard for SailGP’s 12 national teams and on-site operational teams to cultivate workforce comprehension of power requirements and enable power efficiencies. The national teams dashboard supports Impact League scoring and auditing, whilst another bespoke dashboard allows a live view of consumption and emissions savings through clean energy initiatives onsite.
The most exciting racing on water kicks off its U.S. slate of events this month, starting with the Rolex Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix on March 15-16, 2025. Tickets are available now at SailGP.com/LosAngeles.
