CLIPPER RACE

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will make its return to Punta del Este, Uruguay, as the stunning South American city is confirmed as a Host Port for the Clipper 2025-26 Race.

This marks the fourth time Punta del Este will welcome the Clipper Race fleet, in partnership with the renowned Yacht Club Punta del Este (YCPE). Prior to reaching Punta del Este, the fleet will have raced over 6,000 nautical miles in the opening Atlantic Trade Winds Leg. This ocean crossing, featuring everything from heavy squalls and wind holes to the heat of the Doldrums is as tactical as it is gruelling, making Punta del Este a rewarding finish port for Race Crew.

How amazed we are to host the Clipper Race once again; this will be our fourth time, and the excitement doesn’t wear out. “We are looking forward to showing the new Clipper Race crew, that all they have heard about the YCPE’s unique way of hosting doesn’t fully measure up to the real experience

– says Juan Etcheverrito, Commodore, Yacht Club Punta del Este.

Known for its stunning coastline, vibrant culture, and world-class hospitality, Punta del Este has become a favourite among Clipper Race Crew. Each yacht is met by a YCPE member to assist with local knowledge, logistics, and cultural immersion fostering personal connections and a deep sense of community. Race Crew and visitors can expect a packed programme of cultural events, with performances from local artists and support from national and local authorities. Some highlights of the stopover previously have been –

  • Traditional asado barbecues
  • Excursions to Casapueblo and Isla de Lobos
  • Iconic landmarks like La Barra bridge, Punta Ballena, and Jose Ignacio
  • World-renowned beaches, cuisine, and sunset

For YCPE, hosting the Clipper Race strengthens its mission to promote the club and destination globally.

Juan adds: “It has inspired our sailors, our members, and the wider community. With every edition, we continue to grow both as a host and as an institution.”  The Club’s involvement puts the Uruguayan flag and YCPE burgee firmly on the global sailing map.

In the lead-up to this year’s stopover, YCPE is furthering its commitment to inclusion with the introduction of SV14 boats for sailors with disabilities, enabling more people to experience the freedom of sailing. With its rich sailing heritage, welcoming spirit, and unforgettable scenery, Punta del Este is set to be the perfect welcome after the fleet’s first ocean crossing of the Clipper 2025-26 Race.
