After four days of action-packed competition, the waves took a break on Day 5 of the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup, which marks the halfway stage of the event, which led to a well-earned lay day for the sailors and the crew.
Over the opening four days we saw some insane action, but when the top sailors are pushing the boundaries of the sport, there are always going to be some just as epic wipeouts. And the good news is you can see a collection of some of the biggest wipe outs so far @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YnAdtN40m4
With a bit of downtime today we’ve decided to bring you a recap of some of last year’s Slalom X racing in preparation for another installment, which will be coming to you from Fuerteventura between 18th-22nd July. Last year’s recap @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTelGF_3e8M&t=2s
Also our legendary photographer, John Carter, has used today’s downtime to trawl through the thousands of shots he’s taken over the first four days to pick out a few more gems, so be sure to have a look at the updated gallery HERE.
The good news is that today just looks like a temporary blip with the wind and the waves expected to pick up again for the remainder of the event, which should hopefully provide an exciting finale to this year’s edition. The sailors will meet again at 09:30am (GMT+1) on Thursday morning for the skippers’ meeting with a first possible start at 10am.
