EuroCup France WASZP in La Grande Motte: kicks off tomorrow
Conditions should be ideal tomorrow, Friday, for the start of the EuroCup Waszp France at La Grande Motte. Thirty-one competitors representing eight nations will be on the starting line for this penultimate event of the 2025 European Cup.
This Thursday, in anticipation of the strong westerly gale that swept across the bay of Aigues Mortes at midday, a few runners went to train in the waves early in the morning, an opportunity for one of the athletes from the Mediterranean Training Center, Mattéo Chaboud, to set one of the best speeds in the world (28.4 knots) of the year.
Tomorrow, Friday, it will not only be a question of breaking records, but of being the best in a fleet made up of Italian, Swiss, German, Belgian, Spanish, Norwegian athletes and even a young Indian sailor, all eager to shine on the Grand-Mottois waters.
To be followed, among others, the entry into competition of the Italian world champion Federico Bergamasco and that of the local Hippolyte Gruet, who are both aiming for the European medal.
The first races are expected to get underway mid-morning on Friday in a strong westerly wind and fairly choppy seas, conditions that will make the sailing both technical and spectacular!
