Barcolana
It will be an approach race to Trieste to participate in the largest regatta in the world. A 95-mile offshore test born from the collaboration between the Circolo Velico Ravennate and the Società Velica Barcola e Grignano.
Around the Barcolana, the traditional regatta that has been held every second Sunday in October for 53 years and has already broken all participation records, the events that enrich its content and above all the fun for the owners grow. To bring the central Adriatic fleet closer together, making the arrival in Trieste more interesting, Società Velica Barcola and Grignano and Il Circolo Velico Ravennate have signed an agreement to transform the transfer into a regatta.
The first edition will begin on Thursday, October 7, late in the afternoon, to arrive in Trieste on Friday. All boats with a height greater than 8.46 m that make up the Barcolana classification, divided into the same classes, will be able to participate. Additionally, a prize will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis through the application of ORC rates. Ships from the southern Adriatic will be able to focus on Ravenna, one of the safest and most accessible ports in all weather conditions, from the previous weekend. Registration will be open from September 6, the only condition to be registered in the Barcolana: for this reason the owners will receive a single number of mascone that will accompany them both in this approach test and during the Trieste test.
“A new route joins the many present this year in Barcolana – said SVBG President Mitja Gialuz – and it is a route that we are very happy to activate. The concept of “Go To Barcolana” was born six years ago, with the aim of transforming transfers to Barcolana into opportunities for collective sailing and regattas. The Ravenna-Trieste route is very important for Barcolana, which together with the Circolo Velico Ravennate will make the crews of the central and southern Adriatic protagonists: we will welcome the participants in Ravenna-Barcolana with all the honors and our affection, we will it tells its stories of the sea and we will celebrate them once we arrive in Trieste, with the fullest spirit that distinguishes Barcolana. Behind the regatta we can read the common will of SVBG and CVR, the desire to collaborate from a sporting point of view and create together new initiatives that promote and enhance our sport. ”
“It is an event that unites cities and clubs with great sports sailing traditions – says CVR Vice President Matteo Plazzi – and the Upper Adriatic has a very strong tradition of regattas with catchment areas that do not always mix, giving life to large events. We believe in developing a renewed movement of boats on the high seas and we also have a broader project for many fans to return to racing and the high seas ”.
“Sailing on the high seas – commented SVBG’s director of offshore sports Dean Bassi- is having more and more success in Italy, and this new regatta is proof of this: it is certainly a fun and challenging event for the crews. who choose to go up to the Adriatic, an opportunity to test themselves and live together the route that leads to Trieste. “Giovanni Ceccarelli, director of the CVR on the high seas, says: “Every year, about fifty vessels on the high seas leave our docks for the Barcolana. We want to give this transfer the shape of a regatta and also give a reference to the rest of the clubs on the coast. In addition, the two cities have important business realities in pleasure boats that must be supported ”. All the information on the regatta will be available on the Barcolana website and the Ravenna Sailing Club.
