Australian and his dog rescued after 3 months adrift in Pacific

Timothy Lyndsay Shaddock, 54, and the dog Bella were rescued 1,000 miles from land by the crew of a Mexican tuna boat.

The Australian sailor who had been adrift at sea with his dog for three months was rescued by a Mexican tuna boat in international waters.

Timothy Lyndsay Shaddock, 54, was aboard his disabled catamaran Aloha Toa in the Pacific some 1,900 km (1,200 miles) from land when the crew of the Grupomar fleet boat spotted them.

Shaddock and his dog Bella were in a “precarious” state when they were found, with no supplies or shelter. The tuna boat crew provided them with medical care, food and hydration.

Shaddock said he and his dog had survived on raw fish and rainwater after a storm damaged their boat and destroyed its electronics. “I have been through a very difficult ordeal at sea and I just need to rest and eat well because I have been alone at sea for a long time,” said Shaddock, thin and bearded.
