Abandoned boats
Ireland’s water authorities have raised nearly €40,000 from an auction of sunken and abandoned ships salvaged from the country’s canals and rivers.
Some bidders claim to get boats for just a few hundred euros, while others bid thousands for the chance to put an abandoned ship back on the water.
Waterways Ireland announced that it would sell dozens of vessels it had removed from the Grand, Royal, Barrow and Shannon shipping channels as part of a clean-up operation.
