39 Copa del Rey MAPFRE

This afternoon, the terraces of the Real Club Náutico de Palma hosted the presentation to the media of the 39th edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE. After a blank year due to health responsibility in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bay of Palma will once again receive the fleet of the great Mediterranean event this summer.

The countdown has begun. On June 16, the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) officially presented the 39th edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE and the event was attended by the president of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, Emerico Fuster; the territorial director of MAPFRE in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Ricardo Garzó; the mayor of Palma, José Hila; the president of the Balearic Islands Port Authority, Francesc Antich Oliver; the Minister of Social Affairs and Sports, Fina Santiago; the government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Aina Calvo; and the president of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Javier Sanz.

It will undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated editions after the regatta was canceled last summer due to the health crisis caused by Covid-19, as has been expressed by Emerico Fuster, president of the RCNP: “The Copa del Rey MAPFRE is not just a regatta but an icon of the sport and social event of Palma, Mallorca and the Mediterranean, so I am enormously proud to present this 39th edition today after the difficult and complicated year that we have all lived through. Being able to celebrate the Copa del Rey MAPFRE is one more sign that little by little we are returning to our way of living and, furthermore, I can tell you in advance as an exclusive of this press conference, that we have already exceeded one hundred registered, which satisfies us enormously because it was unimaginable at the beginning of this year. ”

“Just as we had to postpone it last year due to responsibility, today we have the responsibility to celebrate it, and thus contribute to the economic recovery of our city. The Copa del Rey MAPFRE has had a direct impact of 18 million euros on the economy of Mallorca. Our club cannot renounce in these moments so important to the social function that makes it essential for the city ”.

For his part, Ricard Garzó, MAPFRE’s territorial director in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, pointed out that “for MAPFRE it is a real privilege and honor to be able to once again demonstrate our commitment to this sport and to all the participants in this event, which represents so much the company values. After a year and some very difficult months, the Bay of Palma will once again become the best setting for this unmissable sporting event for sailing lovers ”.

“MAPFRE’s relationship with the Real Club Náutico de Palma is already very long and I can affirm that being one more year as sponsors of this competition and working side by side with the entire club team is a source of pride for all of us who make up MAPFRE. We are also convinced that this year the Copa del Rey MAPFRE will be especially exciting and resoundingly successful thanks to the efforts of all the athletes, organizers, teams and people related to this event ”, added Garzó.

Francesc Antich, president of the Balearic Port Authority, also wanted to emphasize that “it is a satisfaction to be able to participate in the presentation of the 39th edition of the Copa del Rey, an event for our port of Palma, for the whole of the islands and for the beloved Mediterranean Sea, especially after such a difficult year as the one we have been through due to the happy pandemic ”.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Real Club Náutico de Palma, extending it to all its members, for having known how to adapt to the circumstances and guarantee the organization of this magnificent event, and to its president, Mr. Emerico Fuster, for his great dedication to this entity. A club that brings prestige to the port of Palma and to all the Balearic Islands for its excellent social and sports work ”.

The person in charge of closing the event was on this occasion José Hila, Mayor of Palma, and he did so by stating that “the Copa del Rey places Palma on the international map, and that is something fundamental. The regatta has for us that side of a window towards the world and it is also a commitment to a city that looks out to sea. We wish all the participants luck and that the competition runs smoothly within the difficulties we have today ”.
