39th Lake Garda Meeting Optimist
Demanding conditions don’t slow down racing
An Ora wind up to 25 knots has not slowed down operations at Fraglia Vela Riva, where over six hundred young sailors are involved in the 39th edition of the Garda Optimist Meeting.
A race was completed today for the young Cadets (born in 2011 and 2012), who were then returned to the shore as the wind built. Once again Irene Faini of CN Brenzone leads the ranking, and with a total of 9 points she leads her teammate Artur Bringhenti, winner of today’s race who climbed from fourth place yesterday to second overall. The provisional bronze medal position is held by Jesper Karlsen of Circolo Vela Toscolano Maderno. The top-five is closed by Pietro Lucchesi of Tognazzi Marine Village and Marco Aloisi of Circolo Nautico Brenzone. Andrea Demurtas, first among the sailors from Fraglia Vela Riva, is sixth overall.
The Junior category sailors had fun with the intense Ora wind, bringing home three races that are added to the two already completed yesterday. The overall ranking is still controlled by Quan Adriano Cardi (3-3-2) who, after the discard of the worst result, is followed on equal points by the sailor from Fraglia Vela Riva, Alex Demurtas (1-2-8). An all-Italian top-three is completed by Alessio Cindolo (2-2-1) currently occupying third place. The Ukrainian Dmytro Karabadzhak and the Spanish Xavier Garcia Ollè close the top five. The female ranking is led by the Spanish sailor Susana Bestard who is eighth overall.
Racing will resume tomorrow at 11am and, after the day’s practice, the fleet will be divided into gold and silver groupings to compete in Sunday’s finals.
