Salvadoran surfer Katherine Díaz, 22, a member of the national team of that discipline, died this Friday after being struck by lightning.
The event occurred while Díaz was training on the beach of El Tunco, on the Salvadoran coast washed by the Pacific, in the department of La Libertad.
The surfer had already finished her afternoon training – on Friday, May 19 – and she was coming out of the water just as a storm started, when a ray struck her.
