Team New Zealand is considering a radical proposal for the next America’s Cup defense by retaining the Auld Mug against Luna Rossa.
Head of defense Grant Dalton and Ineos Team UK owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe have two options on the table for the next Cup defense.
One is in New Zealand in 2024, but the other that has been discussed is a one-off defense against Ineos Team UK excluding other rivals on the Isle of Wight next year.
That would return the Cup to its original home, where the Americans won the first regatta in 1851.
