SAILGP ROME
The Rolex SailGP Championship is heading to Rome for the first time ever.
Fresh off last week’s blockbuster 2027 Season calendar reveal, SailGP has now confirmed Italy’s capital city will host the Italy Sail Grand Prix | Rome on September 11-12, 2027 – marking the beginning of a new three-year partnership.
Set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most iconic cities, the event will unfold across two days of high-speed racing from a purpose-built Race Stadium at Porto di Roma.
The announcement was made at a special launch event at the Ara Pacis Museum, attended by SailGP CEO and co-founder Sir Russell Coutts, members of the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team and local dignitaries including President of the Lazio Region Francesco Rocca and Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
Rome becomes one of the headline additions to SailGP’s expanding 2027 calendar, joining a global lineup featuring Hong Kong, New York, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco and Dubai.
The event will mark SailGP’s third visit to Italian waters, following previous events in Taranto in 2021 and 2023 – but its first ever in the country’s capital.
Coutts described the agreement as a “significant moment” for the championship’s continued global growth.
“Rome is a unique location for SailGP, bringing together ancient history, architecture and culture with the modern, cutting-edge technological innovation we are known for,” he said.
“Adding another world-class destination to our calendar demonstrates how strong a proposition SailGP is to cities and partners globally.”
Thousands of ticketed fans are expected to attend across the race weekend, with the Italy Sail Grand Prix | Rome set to combine adrenaline-fueled racing with entertainment, food and live experiences on shore.
