The Ocean Race Europe

The Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team has become the first team to formalize its registration for the new event

The Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team has become the first team to enter The Ocean Race Europe, after the entry period opened earlier this week.

The first edition of The Ocean Race Europe is scheduled for late spring this year and is open to VO65 teams and IMOCA 60s. The event will feature several stages from the Atlantic coast of Europe to the Mediterranean, with a maximum of four stops on the route. The full course of the regatta will be published shortly.

Based in Cascais (Portugal), the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team will compete aboard its Racing for the Planet boat, in the VO65 class, the oceanic monotypes that broke records and that starred in the most even edition in the history of The Ocean Race in 2017-18.

“We are delighted to confirm our participation in The Ocean Race Europe,” said Yoann Richomme, the skipper of the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team. “The regatta will be a challenge in itself, and it deserves our full attention and preparation. We are going to approach this regatta in the same way as The Ocean Race; we are here to win and our preparation reflects this. We are building a team of sailors and a very experienced shore team and we can’t wait to get out on the water. ”

“Officially entering The Ocean Race Europe is an important milestone for the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team,” said Paulo Mirpuri, founder of the team. “We have all faced many challenges over the past twelve months and sport will continue to play a critical role in our recovery. As we continue to fight Covid-19, we must not forget the battle we all face against climate change. Our message does not change, we are ‘Racing For The Planet’ (Competing for the planet) “.

“We welcome Paulo Mirpuri, Yoann Richomme and the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team on board as the first team to enter The Ocean Race Europe,” said Phil Lawrence, Race Director. “This is a team with the ambition to perform at the highest level in and out of the water, with a strong commitment to racing for the planet and we are looking forward to seeing them on the starting line in May.”

The Ocean Race Europe is scheduled for May / June this year. Event organizers will prioritize the health and safety of all participants, the public, and all stakeholders and will adhere to all regulations and protocols regarding Covid-19.
