SODEBO ULTIM 3 ON A TECHNICAL SCALE IN REUNION

Six days after giving up their bid for the Jules Verne Trophy and after 23 days at sea, the crew of the Sodebo Ultim 3 arrived on Thursday at noon local time on Reunion Island (9 am northwest of the island. You should stay there for 3-5 days before setting sail for Lorient, your home port.

Last Friday, Thomas Coville and his team made the difficult decision to end their bid for the Jules Verne Trophy. The damage to the starboard rudder did not allow them to consider crossing the Pacific with a reliable and, therefore, 100% safe boat. After the disappointment, the eight “Sodeboys” set sail for Reunion, then 2,300 miles away, where they arrived this Thursday morning, after just under six days at sea.

“We were very well received, there were people, we found our technical team. Although it was not the original plan to make a stopover in Reunion Island, they are still good times ”, commented the skipper of the Sodebo Ultim 3 when mooring the trimaran. The technical team dispatched to the scene immediately got on board to inspect the damaged rudder in detail before beginning repairs.

“We estimate the duration of the stopover between 3 and 5 days, the objective is to leave for Lorient quickly while still being in the dynamics of moving the ship forward. When we stopped, we told ourselves that we had already done something great, we still want to grow what we have learned and capitalize on the dynamics of our team, ”explains Thomas Coville. Sodebo Ultim 3 should return to base from her in mid-January after three weeks of navigation.
