Virtual Balearic Yacht Show with a wide scope

The organizer of the Balearic Yacht Show says that the virtual event had a global reach of more than 1 million

More than 150 exhibitors participated in the Balearic Yacht Show during the three days, from November 18 to 20.

During the first virtual boat show of the Balearic Islands, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and the Marine Cluster of the Balearic Islands, more than 40 live conferences were held where more than 110 prominent national and international speakers gave some of the main presentations related to the industry. In addition to intense discussions about the current situation in the maritime sector, the captains and crew came together for some fun events.

One of the highlights was the cocktail masterclass given by a leading international training firm that combined a workshop with a networking exercise.

Although it could not be a physical fair, the Balearic Yacht Show provided the opportunity for thousands of professionals in the nautical sector to virtually reconnect through the different channels offered by the platform as well as Zoom, Slack and online networking rooms.

The Balearic Marine Sector
One of the main topics discussed during the Balearic Yacht Show was the situation of the Balearic and international nautical sector after a few months of uncertainty due to COVID-19.
Martin Redmayne, president of the Superyacht Group, was in charge of opening the three-day session held at the Balearic Yacht Show, with an interesting reflection on the current state of the nautical industry and bright prospects for the future.

Another positive aspect of the Balearic Yacht Show is the high level of occupancy that currently exists in Mallorcan shipyards. Through the conference ‘Why recondition in the Balearic Islands’ organized by SuperYacht Times, the professionals of the nautical industry affirmed that the restoration and maintenance of boats have not been greatly affected during the harshest months of the pandemic in the Balearic Islands. Companies in this sector maintain a good work rhythm and predict a project boom in 2021.

During the Balearic Yacht  Show, the training and employment needs of the sector were also discussed. Along with the measures and actions that we must take to strengthen the sector and meet the growing demand for professional talent.

Environmental measures in the nautical industry

According to experts, the Balearic Islands are on the way to becoming the European benchmark for environmental sustainability in the nautical sector, however there is still a long way to go. During the conference “The Boat of the Future” by IBI News, the environmental measures that are being taken and the commitment to hybrid boats with solar panels that must be implemented to be as ecological as possible were also discussed.
In addition to discussions on the industry, there were speakers from the main local and international competitions, such as the Superyacht Cup, the Sofia Regatta and the Vendée Globe.
